Those of you that know me and follow my blog also know that I approach my reviews with suspect anticipation. With each review, I try to bring you – my readers – the fairest reviews of products.
But those that know me also know that I am always ready to search out the best green tea products, including both the Sencha and Matcha varieties on the market.
There is such a popular wave of following for green tea, probably because of the beverage’s incredible benefits. But, where the market trend has increased, duplication and inferior products will always abound.
So, today I am reviewing a product that I stumbled on first through a friend. Then, I took the opportunity to receive the product for this review. The Japanese Matcha I am reviewing is an exclusive Japanese green tea matcha offered by The Japanese Green Tea Company,
Specifically, we are looking at its Premium Japanese Powdered Green Tea. This matcha is sourced from Japan at the Arahataen Green Tea Farm.
It is said that the fertile land where this matcha tea plant is grown is sweetened naturally by sugar cane. The grower is identified as Tea Master, Arahata.
Why I’m Impressed with a Quality Japanese Matcha?
Research has touted that green tea is probably the healthiest beverage available. And its quality grown matcha is the very purest form of experiencing green tea.
Matcha contains higher levels of caffeine, antioxidants, and amino acids than the Sencha version of green tea.
When looking for a quality powdered matcha, you’ll want to try varieties sourced from Japan and preferably from a single source farm. This assures the highest-grade tea plants.
There are commonly three grade levels of Japanese green tea matcha: ceremonial; premium; and culinary. The Premium Japanese Powdered Green Tea by the Japanese Green Tea, In is a premium grade matcha.
It is single-farm sourced from Japan. The traditional growing and harvesting assure the highest and most flavorful tea plants for the matcha.

Preparation Steps for This Japanese Matcha Review
For this review, I followed the product’s preparation instructions that are conveniently provided on the Japanese Green Tea Company label. These are the preparation steps I followed for this review.
- I heated my water (I used purified water) to about 190°F.
- I took 1 teaspoon (4 grams) of matcha powder into my sifter (taking out any clumps) and into a tea cup.
- I added 2 ounces of water.
- Waited about 60 seconds.
- Gently whisked matcha and water in a circular motion (I don’t have the alternative electric whisk like the instructions offer).
The Premium Japanese Powdered Green Tea Full Experience
How Did the Prepared Matcha Look?
When you first open the matcha tin, the matcha powder has a bright and intense grassy green coloring. It reminds me of lemongrass.
In the cup, the finished beverage is very appealing and is one of the prettiest cups of matcha, which is part of the full experience. Its finished color is a bright green.
How Did the Prepared Matcha Smell?
The full experience includes all the senses, right? Well, the smell was delightful. The aroma fresh.
How Did the Prepared Matcha Taste?
Delicious at each step. I’m just going to get right to the point. This Premium culinary matcha rivals some of its competitors’ best ceremonial matchas.
Whether you like your matcha beverage light or more concentrated, the rich texture of this quality powder matcha produces great steeping. Refreshingly clean, full and bold throughout its tasting.
When you prepare this matcha properly, you’ll get a very smooth, refreshing, and lightly-grassy tasting that transitions into a full-bodied foaming texture, infused with the light sweetness of its sugar cane soil.
The matcha also foamed quickly. It is so easy to get the desired foamy topper affect with tiny (humongous amount) of green foam. That foaming really comes through the flavor, as it infuses the creamy bold flavor of the tea.
I tried different concentration levels of the powder-to-water mixture. I was able to tweak the flavoring with added water to change its intensity and lightness. And at each level, the matcha tea was very tasty.
This premium grade powdered green tea is great for lattes, shakes, smoothies, and all baking and culinary recipes. It’s full-body adds tremendous variety and unique flavoring to many versatile recipes.
Let’s Talk Price
The price of this Premium Japanese Powdered Green Tea is okay for a single purchase, at about $24.99. Frankly, it compares well with the pricing on other matches on Amazon. If you use the lighter amount of matcha, you’ll pay about $.50 to $1.00 per cup (less than Starbucks).
But I also checked the Japanese Green Tea Company In’s website for pricing options. Right now, the company is offering 10% off the retail pricing. However, with repeat order you can get a good discount price of $15.99 (that’s a 20% savings) for continuous ordering. Yah!

Powder to Preparation Performance
You might want to know how the Premium Japanese Powdered Green Tea performed as compared to other matchas. Frankly, the powdered matcha right out of its tin is light and powdery. When I strained the powder through my matcha sifter, it went through quite easily, leaving no clumps.
It quickly infuses in the heated water and is very easy to froth. Very little effort is needed to acquire a pleasing thick and frothy load of bubbly matcha foam.
This premium culinary matcha also incorporates very well in other recipes, like smoothies and baking. So, I have to say that this powder matcha is most definitely on the high end of quality.
